It's quite complicated to understand how a knotted rug works, but it basically boils down to this: the weft and warp threads form the basis of the knotting technique, after which each weft thread forms a row of knots. Just like that, you might say... Well, not so! On average, a knotter ties 7,000 knots a day and an average knotted rug requires around 2 million knots. Bearing this in mind, the knotter will be busy for some time to make your rug. It is therefore more than worth it to purchase this piece of craftsmanship.

Knotted rugs can be made of different materials. There are knotted woollen rugs, but also synthetic rugs, for example. So there is a suitable knotted rug for every taste, desire and wallet!

Machine- or hand-knotted rugs?

Nowadays, not all knotted rugs are made by hand but instead are machine-knotted. The same result only 'a little' faster!
