Knotted rug: "craft of old"

A beautiful knotted rug in your home? Yes you can, a very good idea indeed! Knotting a rug is truly a traditional craft. It is an exceptional form of handmade rugs made from different materials. In fact, it requires a lot of time and labour, but then the result is stunning. No wonder the material rug is such a popular choice, because who wouldn't want a quality rug knotted in their home?

Knotted rug: knots, knots and more knots!

It's quite complicated to understand how a knotted rug works, but it basically boils down to this: the weft and warp threads form the basis of the knotting technique, after which each weft thread forms a row of knots. Just like that, you might say... Well, not so! On average, a knotter ties 7,000 knots a day and an average knotted rug requires around 2 million knots. Bearing this in mind, the knotter will be busy for some time to make your rug. It is therefore more than worth it to purchase this piece of craftsmanship.

Knotted rugs can be made of different materials. There are knotted woollen rugs, but also synthetic rugs, for example. So there is a suitable knotted rug for every taste, desire and wallet!

Machine- or hand-knotted rugs?

Nowadays, not all knotted rugs are made by hand but instead are machine-knotted. The same result only 'a little' faster! If you would like something different from a straightforward rug, a round rug might be the right choice. The round shape makes the clean lines in your room stand out less, playfully forming a whole. How cool is it if you can form a Scandinavian style with a knotted rug? Then choose a rug with a minimalist pattern. Or maybe you're looking for more class, then a designer rug is a tip to look at! Besides knotted rugs, there are also woven rugs and braided rugs.
