There's nothing nicer than your wall hanging in the living room being admired by all your guests! For example, you can create a nice unity with the fabric or colour palette of the sofa. But creating contrast through the use of different colours, materials and prints can also work extremely well. Preferably, you can best steam the back of the rug with an iron. Prefer to treat the front of the rug? Then be careful and place a thin fabric cloth between the surface of the rug and the iron.
Hanging a wall rug
After that, you can hang it on the wall. There are two options for this.
Method 1: with Velcro. Attach a wide strip of Velcro to the back of the rug and stick the other side to the wall. This way you basically glue the rug to the wall. For extra stability you can attach both strips of Velcro to a batten and attach that to both the wall and the rug.
Method 2: on a curtain rod. Create a so-called tunnel at the top of the rug by folding a piece of fabric over and securing it. You then push the curtain rod through and attach the whole thing to the wall using the accompanying hanging system. When you notice that the wall hanging isn't quite balanced, you can also create a tunnel at the bottom and insert a stick here so the whole thing hangs nice and taut.
Wall rugs go way back!
Wall hangings, actually it's nothing new. Long ago, the walls of many a castle were hung full of woven rugs decorated with various prints and patterns. In the early days mainly to prevent the cold and draughts from the walls, later the beauty of them became increasingly important and wall hangings became luxurious, pompous artistic expressions. But not only did the wall hangings hold secret, aristocratic goings-on indoors – they also had an acoustic effect on music. Wonderful!
